How do I travel to Moscow, Russia on a tight budget in the autumn?

I need to visit a close friend in Moscow, Russia in October or November, but am on a very tight budget. Can anyone recommend cheap hotels/pension houses/bed and breakfasts/or hostels if need be? Also I have not found the information about train and bus travel to Moscow, can anyone help?

Regarding bus service – try http://www.eurolines.com

There are cheap airlines flying from Europe (England, Germany, Netherlands). You can find them on this website (I don’t know which country you will be traveling from): http://whichbudget.com/

If your friend speaks Russian, ask him to book a hotel for you – there are quite a few relatively cheap hotels and apartments/rooms for rent intended for local people (most of Internet website are more expensive). But we’re still talking about $ 50 a day – Moscow is expensive.
